Section 171 - Licence to Make a Temporary Excavation in the Public Highway
Apply online for a licence to make a temporary excavation in the public Highway.
Please make sure that you are applying for the correct type of licence before you confirm payment. You should also check that the location is within West Berkshire (you can view a map of the district here). To cover our administration costs, we can generally only offer a 50% refund where licence applications contain errors or where applicants withdraw their application before it has been granted. Once an application has been processed and granted, we are not able to give refunds if you tell us you no longer need the licence.
This application must be accompanied by:
- a plan showing the precise location of the proposed works
- a copy of your/your contractor's public liability certificate - this must provide a minimum cover of £10 million
- copies of current qualifications valid under Section 67 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 for the supervisors and operatives who will be carrying out the works
- a copy of any permissions required from the relevant Statutory Undertaker
- letters/plans from Statutory Undertakers confirming either that their apparatus is not affected, or, if it is, their requirements
